Acupuncture Treatment for Fertility

Deciding to have a baby is one of the biggest decisions we make during our lifetime. With this decision comes some stress and the need to create as healthy of an environment as possible for your new addition. Whether you are new to the decision to have a baby or if you have experienced fertility issues, acupuncture is a proven therapy that increases your chances of a healthy pregnancy.

We can assist you through every stage of your fertility journey. Step 1 is to help you to fall pregnant either naturally or with Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) from fertility clinics Step 2 is to help you to successfully carry your baby to term. Step 3 is to have a healthy delivery with your baby positioned for entry into this world. Step 4 is to nurture you back to optimal health after your baby making journey may have left your body a little depleted.

There are many theories why infertility is on the rise, but according to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) female infertility and low sperm count or sperm motility occur due to disrupted hormone production and blockages in the flow of highly nutritious oxygenated blood to the reproductive organs.

We LOVE helping YOU to make babies. Our integrative approach has successfully helped 100’s of women get pregnant and stay pregnant.

Who is Fertility Acupuncture For?

We see patients at every stage of your fertility journey:

PREPARING to get pregnant. A healthy you will help to grow a healthy baby. Using a combination of acupuncture, herbs, diet and lifestyle to create the most fertile foundation to create a healthy baby.

READY TO TRY to get pregnant right now. We will use our proprietary holistic methods to enhance your chances of falling pregnant by preparing your uterus and balancing your hormones.

ASSISTED pregnancy.  We have great success supporting women who are struggling with infertility or to conceive on their own and are using In-vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI).  We work in conjunction with your fertility specialist to improve your chances of success. We help to correct any imbalances in your hormones and body. We strive to increase egg quantity, optimize egg quality, and improve the quality of your uterus to make it an inviting bed of highly nutritious blood ready for implantation. All while keeping you as calm as humanly possible and treating any side effects of your fertility medications. Once you are pregnant, we work alongside you to keep the baby, especially for the first trimester.

FUTURE pregnancy – Women who are looking to freeze their eggs. We help improve ovarian function & follicle development by balancing your reproductive hormone levels and improving your body functions as they relate to making eggs. The extra bonus of this treatment is that it leaves you even healthier. When you decide to use your successfully frozen eggs, we suggest supporting your implantation by preparing your uterus three months prior.

POST pregnancy. This is often a forgotten step. In our experience we observe that everyone focuses on the baby, and no one focuses on nurturing the mother after she has just carried a baby for 9 months and then continues to breastfeed with limited sleep for a few more months or even years. All this life-giving from the mom is also depleting to her body. Chinese medicine excels at using food therapy and acupuncture together with other techniques to build mom’s body back up. Acupuncture can also be used for pain relief after cesarean delivery or from tears that occurred during delivery.

How Common is Infertility?

About 9% of men and about 11% of women of reproductive age in the United States have experienced fertility problems.

  • In one-third of infertile couples, the problem is with the man.
  • In one-third of infertile couples, the problem can’t be identified or is with both the man and woman.
  • In one-third of infertile couples, the problem is with the woman.

Fertility declines with age in both men and women, but the effects of age are much greater in women. In their 30s, women are about half as fertile as they are in their early 20s, and women’s chance of conception declines significantly after age 35. Male fertility also declines with age, but more gradually. Why Should You Consider Adding Your Partner to Your Fertility Plan Care?

Making a baby takes teamwork from you and your partner.

Weekly treatment for male fertility will increase their testosterone, release tension, and some may even feel more energized (in general and in the bedroom)! Since sperm takes up to 90 days to develop, we recommend that men begin weekly acupuncture treatment at least 3 months before trying to conceive. By incorporating weekly acupuncture, nutrition, and herbs, your partner will produce healthier sperm and feel better too.

Don’t underestimate the stress that trying to fall pregnant has on you as well as your partner. If both of you are receiving treatment, the stress reduction benefit alone is worth it.

What We Include For Your Partner:

·    Acupuncture

·    Customized Nutrition Plan

·    Herbs

Is Acupuncture Safe After Embryo Transfer?

Absolutely yes! Research is available to support acupunctures’ ability to improve pregnancy rates after embryo transfer. Even better, our clinical success more than shows that acupuncture is safe. We have many happy little baby Healing Elephant assisted pregnancies to celebrate.

In just one research study performed on 72 women, it was observed that three sessions of acupuncture before and after ET significantly increased the pregnancy rates in women with unexplained infertility. It was also found that acupuncture significantly reduced anxiety levels that occurred before ET.

What are the Success Rates of Acupuncture for Reproduction Therapy?

Over the last 15 years, an increasing amount of research has emerged showing the benefits of acupuncture with IVF and other fertility treatments. In one of the most well-known studies, the Paulus study in 2002, clinical pregnancy rates were 42.5% in the acupuncture group, whereas the pregnancy rate was only 26.3% in the control group.

Acupuncture treatment has been linked to more babies, pregnancies, live births, and fewer miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. Our Physicians have had great success helping patients conceive and carry their baby to term and continue to care for the baby once they are born.

When Should I Stop Fertility Acupuncture?

Typically, most miscarriages occur within the first 3 months of pregnancy. We encourage treatments to continue at least until the end of the first trimester.

What Does a Fertility Plan Include?

  • Acupuncture Weekly – frequency varies due to your age and whether you are doing natural or assisted forms of falling pregnant.
  • Nutrition Plan – an e-course on fertility-enhancing nutrition
  • Analysis of blood work
  • Functional Medicine Coaching
  • Fertility-enhancing techniques that you can perform at home
  • Herbal medicine

When Should I Start Acupuncture Treatment?

Research has shown that some treatment is better than no treatment, but acupuncture’s effectiveness increases with the number of acupuncture sessions prior to fertility treatment or the day you fall pregnant. Sperm and eggs both take approximately 90 days to develop.  As such, we recommend you begin acupuncture treatment at least 3 months prior and continue throughout whatever treatment you are pursuing. This amount of time helps to increase the chances that the egg and resulting embryo are healthy and that the body can receive the embryo and sustain a successful pregnancy.

An example of your treatment plan may be as follows. You are unique, your Acupuncture Physician will craft your personalized plan during your first treatment based on your age, risk factors, level of health, and other factors.

Natural Fertility

  • 3 times per week for the first week
  • 2 times a week for the following 6 weeks
  • 1 time a week until you are pregnant
  • 2 times per week for the first trimester.

Assisted Fertility

  • 3 times per week for the first week
  • 2 times a week for the following 6 weeks
  • 1 time a week until you are pregnant

Once you start with fertility medication prescribed by your fertility doctor, you usually must stop herbal treatment. This means that we must rely on acupuncture more, so the frequency will increase back to 2 or 3x a week depending on your age and several other factors.
