How Frozen Shoulder Can Be Cured Naturally (Part 2)

By Dr. Ronel Corbin. A whole-body healing approach that treats more than just the joint

Frozen shoulder can feel like being trapped in your own body—simple movements become painful, and progress often feels slow or confusing. If you’ve tried physical therapy or cortisone injections without lasting results, you’re not alone.

In Part 1, we explored what frozen shoulder really is—a systemic inflammatory condition, not just a joint injury.

Now in Part 2, I’ll walk you through how I treat frozen shoulder with a comprehensive, root-cause approach. These strategies are based on science, Chinese medicine, and years of success with my patients.

You Are Not Your Diagnosis

You are not “a frozen shoulder.” You are a whole person experiencing a symptom. That’s why my approach is based on precision medicine—your treatment is tailored to your unique body, your hormonal state, your stress, your sleep, and your inflammation triggers.

While this article outlines key steps, true healing comes from personalized care. One size never fits all.

Step 1: Reduce Inflammation Through Food

Inflammation is the fire at the root of frozen shoulder. We need to cool it from the inside out. I start every patient on an anti-inflammatory nutrition plan that supports hormone balance, reduces insulin resistance, and nourishes the fascia and connective tissue.

✅ What to include:

Omega-3 fats (salmon, flax, walnuts)

Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, kale)

Turmeric, ginger, garlic

Green tea and bone broth

Clean protein and olive oil

❌ What to avoid:

Sugar and refined carbohydrates

Processed seed oils (canola, soy, corn)

Alcohol, gluten, and dairy (if inflammatory for you)

Step 2: Use the Right Exercise

Stretching and strengthening are essential—but they must match the phase of healing you’re in. I used both of these options to rehabilitate my own frozen shoulder.

💪 Option 1: Shoulder Reliever System

Gentle, supportive movement designed for frozen shoulder. Recover in 40-days with the SHOULDER Reliever. This doctor-created patent-pending system works. The ONLY day/night shoulder pain solution — or your money back! Get the Shoulder Reliever here.

🧠 Option 2: McKenzie Method – Shoulder Protocol

Repetitive directional movement to reduce pain and restore motion. Watch this video on You Tube to see the exercise. Get the book here.

Don’t push through sharp pain – these methods should fee relieving and empowering.

Step 3: Dry Needling

Dry needling targets deep muscular trigger points that limit range of motion. It works especially well for the subscapularis and other rotator cuff muscles. These muscles keep your shoulder frozen or “stuck” as they have become a rigid tangled mess like a knotted ball of yarn.

It helps:

  • Release muscle tension
  • Improve blood flow and joint mobility
  • Reset nerve signaling and reduce chronic pain

A 2021 study found significant improvements in pain and mobility from dry needling for frozen shoulder. (Source)

Dry needling is one of my go-to therapies to speed results and break the pain-spasm cycle.

Step 4: Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture combines traditional acupuncture with a gentle current that stimulates the muscle and nervous system simultaneously.

Why it works:

Breaks down adhesions

Increases circulation

Resets protective pain loops in the brain

Reduces inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-α

Studies show electroacupuncture outperforms rehab and medication alone. (Study)

Step 5: Sleep Like It’s Your Medicine

Healing happens while you sleep. But shoulder pain makes sleep harder—and poor sleep worsens inflammation. Sleeping on your painful shoulder will delay healing as you are constantly traumatizing an already traumatized tissue. Sleep is the best time to repair and heal tissue. DO NOT SLEEP ON YOIR INJURED SHOULDER! You have to get off the damaged tissue so that it can heal. Otherwise the very thing, aka sleep, that should be healing you is hurting you.

Best Position:

  • On your back
  • Slightly elevated
  • Arm supported by pillows

My Favorite Pillow:

Therapeutica. Get it here or here

This pillow cradles your neck and aligns your spine. It helps heal the neck and shoulder together—because they’re always having a conversation.

Step 6: Red Light Therapy

Red light and near-infrared light (600–850 nm) stimulate mitochondria and collagen repair.

My top recommendations:

FireWave by EMR-Tek

Kineon MOVE+ Pro

I used the Kineon while driving to my clinic—NET (No Extra Time) habits are my favorite. You can use it while working, commuting, or on calls.

Step 7: The Right Herbs for Circulation, Repair & Inflammation

Turmeric gets all the buzz, but it’s not a magic bullet. In Chinese medicine, turmeric is a “hot” herb and not suitable for everyone.

I use:

Aminos & enzymes (for tissue repair and absorption)

White willow bark, sarsaparilla, cat’s claw (to reduce pain and inflammation)

Chinese formulas customized to the person’s pattern

Herbs should be personalized. My formulas support the nervous system, liver, immune regulation, and pain relief—at the root.

How Long Does It Take to Heal?

One of the most common frustrations I hear is:

“Why isn’t it better after one treatment?”

Tissue changes in the joint take time to heal. Many believe that frozen shoulder is a hormone and form of autoimmune condition. One treatment isn’t going to fix a hormone problem. The treatment must focus on getting the whole person healthier from the inside. It must singularly focus on the shoulder. Here’s what the Cleveland Clinic and clinical experience from top medical professionals agree on:

Frozen shoulder can take 2–9 months just to develop. 1–2 years to fully resolve—even with care. If left untreated, it usually takes longer.

How is My Approach Different?

  • You get a comprehensive personalized plan that treats you as a whole person, not just a person with a shoulder issue
  • You address the root cause (not just symptoms) which means you don’t get another frozen shoulder or whack-a-mole joint pain.
  • You heal faster—often in half the time

And remember: Having frozen shoulder once doesn’t make you immune. If you don’t fix the cause, it often returns—sometimes in the opposite shoulder.
